Deserts are globally important because they cover roughly 20 percent of Earth’s land surface, including highly populated regions in North America, North Africa, west and central Asia and the southwestern United States. The deserts are home to many animals that all live off of each other in one big circle. Oil and gas is found in some deserts. The deserts are important for many reasons but they are a unique biome with unique organisms.
